"Of all holy works, the education of children is most holy." -St. Theophan, the Recluse
Our mission is to further Vickery Meadow students’ basic English phonics, reading, writing, vocabulary and reading comprehension skills, along with personal development in classroom decorum, independent work ethics, and self-confidence. We are an all-volunteer organization that tutors McShan refugee students, through comprehensive, 11-month programming.
VMSRA offers summer tutoring support to students in English phonics, reading and writing, as well as music, art, geography and athletics. In a normal July, over 150 students meet in five learning levels, classroom-style, three mornings each of four weeks, receiving two meals each day. Starting at 7am with Brain and Body Warm Up of gym games and puzzles in the cafeteria over breakfast, from 8am to 11:30am students are guided in socialization, classroom decorum, and academics ranging from basic English phonics, reading and writing all the way to advanced creative writing and chapter books in various exciting genre and world travel.
MRH offers one-on-one, 45-minute tutoring throughout the school week and on select Saturday mornings for basic phonics, reading, writing and reading comprehension on four levels of learning for First and Second Graders, and First through Fifth Grade Newcomers in the U.S. less than one year.
